Terms of Service
These Terms govern your use of the Wire mobile apps and related services (“Wire”, “we”, “us”). By creating an account or using Wire, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
1. What Wire is
Wire is a fintech and social commerce layer on top of a regulated banking and card provider. The provider owns KYC, accounts, ledger, card issuing, authorisation, clearing, and payment rails. Wire provides the experience: social payments identity, loyalty and rewards orchestration, privacy controls, and related product features. Wire is not a bank, a budgeting app, a standalone loyalty card, or a generic social network.
2. Eligibility & account
- You must be able to hold a payment account under applicable law and provider rules.
- You must provide accurate registration details and keep them current.
- Identity verification (KYC) is performed by the banking/card provider; Wire may hand you off to that process and reflect status in the app.
- One person, one consumer account unless we expressly allow otherwise.
3. Payments & money
Sending, requesting, and receiving money; card spend; and related money movement use provider rails. Availability, limits, fees (if any), settlement timing, and disputes for underlying banking or card transactions are subject to the provider’s terms and applicable law. Wire aims for reliable payment UX but does not replace the provider as the issuer or account holder.
4. Loyalty & promotions
Loyalty and promotional discounts apply when Wire can link your payment to a participating merchant (for example via card match plus purchase data, or in-app / payment-reference pay). Instant refund-style discounts are funded by the merchant who was paid, not by Wire as a bank. Programmes can change; Wire is not responsible for merchant programme rules beyond applying them as configured when a match succeeds.
5. Privacy & sharing
Transactions are private by default. Sharing is opt-in or governed by your settings. Payment amounts are not shown on social posts by default. Lock-screen and push notification amounts follow your showAmountsOnLockScreen preference (default off). See the Privacy Policy for POPIA rights and data categories.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use Wire for unlawful, fraudulent, or abusive activity.
- Attempt to bypass security, privacy controls, or payment safeguards.
- Harass others, impersonate anyone, or scrape the service without permission.
- Interfere with loyalty matching, refunds, or other users’ accounts.
7. Deactivation & deletion
You may deactivate your account at any time. You may request deletion in-app or by emailing support@wire.app. Deletion includes a 30-day grace period during which you can cancel. After purge, personal data is anonymised or deleted as described in the Privacy Policy, subject to legally required retention of certain financial records. Business owners may need to transfer or close a business before deletion completes.
8. Suspension
We may suspend or restrict access where required for security, fraud, legal compliance, provider requirements, or breach of these Terms.
9. Intellectual property
Wire branding, the W mark, apps, and site content are owned by Wire or its licensors. You retain rights in content you submit, and grant us a licence to host and display it as needed to operate the service and your sharing choices.
10. Disclaimers
Wire is provided on an “as available” basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties not expressly stated. Payment reliability depends in part on the provider and networks outside Wire’s control. Nothing in these Terms excludes rights you have under consumer protection or financial laws that cannot be waived.
11. Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Wire is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for losses arising from provider outages, merchant programme changes, or your failure to secure your device and credentials. Our aggregate liability for claims relating to the Wire layer is limited to amounts you paid to Wire (if any) for the service in the twelve months before the claim, excluding money moved through the provider.
12. Changes
We may update these Terms. The effective date will change when we do. Continued use after notice of material changes constitutes acceptance where permitted by law.
